Eco-Friendly Erosion Control with
Coconut Matting

Protect slopes. Restore land. Let nature do the work.

Use Cases & Applications

Road and Building Construction

View Details

Coconut matting provides immediate surface stabilization on construction sites, reducing erosion on exposed slopes and embankments. During road and building development, disturbed soil is vulnerable to washouts from rain and wind. Coconut coir fibers anchor the topsoil, allowing vegetation to take root and providing a natural barrier against sediment runoff—making it a biodegradable alternative to synthetic tarps that must be removed.

Riverbanks and Canals

View Details

On riverbanks and canal edges, coconut matting protects against scouring and undercutting caused by flowing water. Its fibrous structure dissipates energy from water movement while holding soil in place. Over time, the matting biodegrades as native vegetation establishes through it, creating a self-sustaining buffer that stabilizes the bank and improves aquatic habitat.

Quarry and Landfill Rehabilitation

View Details

Rehabilitating disturbed sites like quarries and landfills requires effective erosion control and vegetation establishment. Coconut matting acts as a temporary protective layer that holds soil amendments and seeds in place, even on steep or rocky terrain. It encourages moisture retention and root penetration, accelerating the regeneration of natural cover and helping to restore ecological function in degraded landscapes.

Coastal and Dune Protection

View Details

In coastal zones, coconut matting plays a critical role in stabilizing fragile dune systems and preventing wind and wave erosion. Installed along beach fronts or dune faces, the matting traps sand, shields root systems, and allows salt-tolerant plants to establish. Its natural resilience to salt and UV exposure makes it ideal for harsh marine environments while supporting long-term shoreline stabilization.

Agricultural and Drainage Channels

View Details

In agricultural settings and along drainage ditches, coconut matting prevents soil loss and sedimentation in water pathways. It filters runoff, reduces flow velocity, and supports vegetative growth on channel sides, improving water quality and minimizing maintenance needs. Its natural composition makes it safe for farm use and ideal for integrating erosion control with sustainable land management.

Landscaping and Temporary Pathways

Coconut matting has a natural aesthetic appeal as well as function for increased traction and keeping temporary driveway/walkways usable.

What is a Coconut Matting Geotextile?

A biodegradable, woven erosion control product made locally from coconut husk fibers (coir), ideal for protecting bare slopes, roadsides, and riverbanks.

This Rolled Erosion Control Product (RECP) also serves as a short-term bi-axial geogrid, due to the tensile strength of the woven fibers, perfect for adding stability in the sub-base of rural or temporary roads.

Coconut Matting vs Plastic Tarps

Feature Coconut Matting Plastic Tarp
Erosion Control ✅ Holds soil, drains water ❌ Sheds water, causes erosion
Labour & Disposal ✅ Leave in place ❌ Remove & dump
Landscaping ✅ Natural, clean look ❌ Ugly, out of place
Sustainability ✅ Biodegradable, compostable ❌ Adds to landfill
Agriculture ✅ Holds moisture and acts as weed suppressant ❌ Leaches microplastics and chemicals into crops
