Forest Park Landfill

At the Foress Park Landfill, over 800 vetiver plants were strategically integrated into a constructed wetland system designed to detoxify hazardous leachate — turning waste into renewal through the power of nature.

Developed in collaboration with Close the Loop Caribbean and SWMCOL, this project reflects a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation in waste management. The system functions as a living filtration network, using vetiver’s deep roots and symbiotic microbial communities to break down harmful compounds and restore water quality naturally.

As a cost-effective, green-engineered solution, this pilot project (2023–2025) will generate critical data to guide the national-scale rollout of constructed wetlands across Trinidad and Tobago — transforming how the country approaches landfill leachate treatment.
